Ms. Tracey Wanek, Program Supervisor at Creighton University, Financial Hope Collaborative
Please join us on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 as we hear from Ms. Wanek as she shares with us what the Financial Hope Collaborative (FHC) at Creighton University is and how it impacts our local community.
Tracey grew up in Lincoln Nebraska and moved to Omaha 25 years ago, where she raised her family and spent 15 years in the banking and investment industry. A few years ago, she accepted the opportunity to become part of the Financial Hope Collaborative and is Program Supervisor and Jane of all Trades. Tracey is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership at Creighton. Her favorite motto is “Man plans, God laughs.”
The Financial Hope Collaborative began in 2009, with curriculum and programming designed by Executive Director Julie Kalkowski. The program is proprietary to Julie, and is currently housed at Creighton University.
We very recently completed the first clinical trial in the country to look at the effect of financial education on physical health. The results are in the publication process as we speak, and show wonderful outcomes in smoking cessation, fewer moves and therefore more school continuity, and fewer payday loans, bounced check fees and shut off notices for utilities. We also have very timely information about the hopefulness, agility and resourcefulness of those who took our program pre-COVID and how they are faring during the pandemic.
We have the best completion rate in the country for a financial education class, and the new financial mindset our clients create for themselves speaks volumes about the work and willingness present in the Omaha community.
